After a disappointing 3rd place showing at Guilderland last Saturday we responded nicely this week and once again ran like the team we know we are capable of being. The two points we lost by last week served as a motivator as the girls ran determined to make certain that those two points turned in our favor. Our pack running ensured this and our two point loss from a week ago turned into a 61 point victory. From our number one runner to our number 14 we are showing growth and a renewed sense ...

Ironically our girls started this season just as we finished it last year. That is we came up two points shy of our goal. Last year we finished 2nd at the Section II Championship as we lost a heartbreaker by two points. When we finished our sectional race last year I knew it would be close and today I had the same feeling. Unfortunately I was once again correct as we came up two points shy of the win and one point shy of second. Fortunately, today marked the beginning of our season and, thus,...

This year will be a rebuilding year for us. On the girls side four of our top seven from a year ago have graduated. All four of those girls were staples on our varsity squad during all four years of their high school careers. Thus, they will be hard to replace. However, we have many returnees and newcomers eager to do so. How quickly they adjust to their new roles will ultimately determine our success. I due however remain very optimistic and actually believe that this year's squad will not ...

Today was a very good day for our girls as we were finally able to get back into the win column after three consecutive second place showings at our previous invitationals. The girl’s used our proven formula as they put individual accolades aside for the bigger goal of our team. They literally ran as one and were rewarded. The timing of today’s win was big for us as hopefully it restores confidence in our girls going into the championship part of our season. These girls are all go...

Today was a much better day for us. The girls bounced back from a disappointing effort last week as they ran in a tight pack with guts that they lacked a week prior. Although we claimed another second place finish today’s attitude and effort were better and what I expect. We went back to running like the true Broadalbin-Perth and, more importantly, looked like a team that wants to win a section II title. Now if we can get all healthy and in a positive frame of mind I am certain we can ...

Today was a big disappointment for me and hopefully our team. For the first time in two years the girls looked beat at the starting line and ended up defeated at the finish line. Minus one of our top runners, Mackenzie DeZolt, and a few others under the weather, we went into the race with a negative attitude and our results showed it. Fortunately for the girls today was not sectionals. If we want to obtain our ultimate goal the girls are going to have to get mentally tougher. We are a better ...

This year Section X is the host of the New York State Cross Country Championship. Thus, we packed our bags Friday and made the long trip out to Canton to take part in the annual pre-state invitational. As always, these pre-state invitational races bring out many of the best teams in the state as all who wish to contend for a state title take the opportunity to see what the course has to offer. This year’s course is a great course but is very demanding as we discovered today. The high w...

Today was another step forward for our program. On the girls’ side we kept our pack together and were able to win impressively in the large school division. A 21 second gap from 1 to 5 is going to help big time as we move forward. On the boy’s side we showed much improvement as our young squad all are starting to adjust to the longer distance. We are getting better and more confident each week. Although there is still improvement to be made we are headed in the right direction. As...

Today was a true mental test for us. Due to the extreme heat times actually meant little. It was instead who could mentally handle the meet best. I am proud to say that we did just that as our girls started defense of their sectional title with a convincing team win and the boys showed promise for the future. On the girls’ side other teams had some strong front runners but we showed our depth as we put our top 5 runners in front of every team’s third runner and actually put our to...

Last year was a great one for our program as our girls’ team returned to the New State Championship after a 2 year absence and Greg Bogdan culminated his career with a podium finish at states. This year, we look to build on last season success. On the girls side we return everybody and add even more depth. However, a repeat Section 2 championship will not come with ease. Class C has grown and now we will have 28 teams looking to dethrone us. Unlike last year, we will now have a bullR...
