Queensbury Invitational

Today was a great day for us. The boys ran in a tight pack and are beginning to realize how good this team can be. In general, cross country is viewed as an individual sport, but in reality it is perhaps the biggest team sport. “Individuals have success but teams win championships.” That is what makes me so optimistic this year. We have a group of boys who push each other day in and day out to get better. From our number one runner to our last modified runner, each is doing their ...

Guilderland Invitational

Today was a good first meet for us. The boys ran in a nice pack and finished with some impressive early season times. Our fourth place finish was disappointing. However, it didn’t really reflect how we truly did as a team. Due to a small field, teams we would have beat got the upper hand. Had this been a typical 20 plus team meet we would have finished much higher. Our pack would have ensured this as we put six runners in front of any teams fifth. On the girls side our youth showed. Des...

2018 Season Preview

This year has the potential to be a very good one for us. Our boys have shown much improvement from a year ago and should be able to compete at every meet. Although we don??t have any single elite runner we do have a pack of very strong runners that can put us on top. If they realize this and keep our top seven runners in front of other teams number five this could be one of B-P??s best teams ever. The girls are young, but show much potential. If they can adapt to the 5K distance and develop t... Read Full Post »

Today was an odd, yet very good day for us. I say odd because we ran very few of our runners, but good because those that did run, ran exceptionally well. On the girls side we only ran 4 as injuries and illness have taken their effect. Despite this, the four girls competing remained optimistic with 3 of them running personal best. This gives me optimism because they could have decided just to take it easy since we were running incomplete. Instead, they pushed harder and rose to the opportunity p... Read Full Post »

2017 Blackbird Invitational

As a whole, I was very happy with today??s performance. Despite missing some key athletes due to the A.C.T. we held our own and finished a respectable 5th (boys) and 6th (girls). More importantly, the majority of our team showed improvement from a week ago. That is all I can ask for. We are a young team, but we are getting better. On the boys?? side, we ran as tight pack. As a result, each individual ran better. It is my hopes that this young core of boys continues to do this. In doing so I th... Read Full Post »

Today was a mixed bag of emotions and results for us. On the positive side, those who actually ran, ran well and showed their desire to win. Celina finally broke through with an invitational win; something I knew she was capable of, she just needed to realize it. Unfortunately, we had very few compete as injuries have plagued us this year. That, along with a holiday weekend, left us very short handed. As a result, our final team standings were not what we were hoping for. Hopefully, though, our ... Read Full Post »

Today was a step in the right direction for our program. In a basic preview of our sectional championship both teams showed they have potential to be contenders. The boys continue to improve as our young squad is starting to learn how to race at the varsity level, and our girls started to show signs of their talent. However, as has been the case all season our large gaps continue to hurt us. We need to get all members to understand their importance and ??have the guts?? to find out just how go... Pre-State Invitational

Today we made our annual trip to the pre-state cross country invitational. I take my team to this meet every year as motivation for my athletes and a coaching tool for me. Unlike many sports, the site of the New York State cross country championship changes each year. Although the distance of 3.1 miles remains the same, the terrain and difficulty changes dramatically each year. This year our pre-state trip led us to a golf course at Chenango Valley State Park. The course proved to be very fair ... Read Full Post »

Today was a disappointing one for us as both teams did not run to their potential. On the girl??s side, three of our top seven did not run due to injury or illness. Thus, I expected a setback, but not to the extent that it was. I was hoping some of our other runners would step up to fill the shoes of our missing runners, but instead those shoes stayed vacated. I think many of them decided our fate before the race even began. Hopefully they will learn from this, and realize that we are a great t... Read Full Post »

At the beginning of every season I give our team a motto to follow and this year that motto is "light the fire within". Today we attempted to start that fire and got a small spark. Despite some injuries and inexperience we showed enough to give me optimism for the upcoming season. A huge fire can start with just a single match and I am excited to see what today's small spark brings. I believe strongly in both my young boys' and girls' squads and think that they will all find the fire within as t... Read Full Post »
