Broadalbin-Perth Cross Country

Today was a true mental test for us. Due to the extreme heat times actually meant little. It was instead who could mentally handle the meet best. I am proud to say that we did just that as our girls started defense of their sectional title with a convincing team win and the boys showed promise for the future. On the girls’ side other teams had some strong front runners but we showed our depth as we put our top 5 runners in front of every team’s third runner and actually put our top 7 in front of any team’s number 5. We know this is the formula it will take for us to repeat. I also believe that it is this pack running that allowed us to survive the heat better than other teams. When you have another teammate or teammates around you chances are you will stay focused and not let factors out of your control (such as heat) creep in. On the boys side our lack of experience and numbers showed. However, I believe today was a good sign for us as our 3 new varsity runners showed much potential in a very mental race. I believe that as the season progresses and they get use to the varsity distance they will get better and start to surprise many.
