Today was a great day for us. The boys ran in a tight pack and are beginning to realize how good this team can be. In general, cross country is viewed as an individual sport, but in reality it is perhaps the biggest team sport. “Individuals have success but teams win championships.” That is what makes me so optimistic this year. We have a group of boys who push each other day in and day out to get better. From our number one runner to our last modified runner, each is doing their job to make the runner in front of them better. Today they each did that which resulted in a nice firth place finish. More impressively, we were able to beat teams that beat us one week ago, and actually beat all teams within our section and class, including the number one ranked team in our section. Thus, if the boys remain positive and use the constant internal battle for a varsity spot as motivation, I am confident this team can achieve the lofty goals I have set for them. On the girls side we showed much improvement from a week ago but still have much work to do. The young squad is getting the experience they need and I am confident we will only get better as the season progresses. In order to be truly successful, though, we will have to tighten the time gap between each runner. I am confident they are up to the challenge.
